Ross Wins SCIAC Multi-Dual, Athenas Finish Third

Evelyn Ross (JR, Iowa City, IA [pictured]) was the overall winner at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet on Saturday, but the team was not as successful and finished third overall with a 5-2 record.  CMS easily won five of the meets, but fell to Occidental 24-31 and to Redlands 25-30.  This was the first time in 15 years that the team had lost more than one dual meet.

Ross led almost the entire race, finished 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up and a dominating 55 seconds ahead of third.  Another bright spot for the team was Taylor Smiley's (Beaverton, OR) seventh place finish.  She was the top freshman in the conference and narrowly missed beating the defending conference champion.

The Multi-Dual meet is conducted each year as an all-conference competition that emphasizes dual meet scoring.  All eight SCIAC schools compete at the same time and the meet is scored as 28 separate dual meets.  The meet counts for 50 percent of the conference championship.  The other 50 percent will be determined by the results of the SCIAC Championships which will be contested on October 27 at La Mirada Regional Park at 9:00 am.
