Stags, Gurney Win Redlands Invitational

For the second consecutive week, the men's cross country team won the team and individual titles at an invitational.  The only difference this week was the individual winner as Chris Gurney (JR, Ventura [pictured center]) captured the individual win at the Redlands Invitational and last week's winner Adam Coleman (SR, Clayton) was second. CMS won the team title with 25 points beating eight other teams including four SCIAC schools.

Five other Stags finished in the top 15 including Brian Kopczynski (FR, Coto de Caza) in fourth, Kris Brown (FR, Seattle, WA) in eighth, Florian Scheulen (SO, Encinitas) in 10th, Brad Johnson (SR, Oakland) in 12th and Matt Kurtis (SO, Bellingham, WA) in 15th.  CMS showed its depth by having 14 runners who would have run in the top seven for the other teams in the race.

CMS returns to racing action on Saturday, September 29 when they will compete at the Stanford Invitational.
