Athenas Split First Two Games Of The Season

The women's soccer team opened play this weekend and split a pair of games. They lost their opener to Carleton College 2-1 on Saturday and beat Whitman College 1-0 on Sunday. CMS will host Vanguard University on Tuesday, September 5 at 4:00.
In the Saturday opener, both teams played a scoreless first half while battling the 104 degree temperatures. Carleton capitalized first with a goal six minutes into the second half. Arlyn Madsen-Bond (FR, Cambridge, MA) evened the score 15 minutes later by one-touching a cross from Heather Marra (JR, Phoenix, AZ) into the upper corner. The Knights were able to score the game winner just four and half minutes later and held on to secure the win.
The Athenas returned to the field on Sunday to face Whitman College, who opened the night before with a 0-0 tie. Megan Kum (SR, South Pasadena) scored the game's only goal midway through the first half off a cross from Laura Hagen (FR, Bellevue, WA). CMS outshot Whitman 17-8 in the game which was played in 100 degree temperatures, but were unable to convert any more chances.
